About

I'm a writer, a designer, and a video producer, and I think helping people is the best feeling in the world. That's what I've always aimed to accomplish with my work: reaching out to others by sharing personal and relatable experiences, and showing them that they're not alone. I want to cultivate a world where all genders are affirmed and no one has to feel that their identity is wrong.

I've written for Freethought Blogs, Autostraddle, and The Fight magazine, appeared in New York magazine, spoken at secular conferences, served as a substitute Grand Marshal for Chelsea Manning at SF Pride, and appeared on major news networks to discuss healthcare for transgender prisoners. I enjoy cooking, thigh-high socks, rationality, and humanist ethics.

Who am I?

I've been producing informed commentary on YouTube since 2008, covering news, politics, religion, secularism, civil rights, LGBT issues, philosophy, ethics, and just about anything else. It's been one of my most fun and rewarding projects, and now I'd like to take that to the next level.

What is Gender Analysis?

I've been transitioning for the past two years, which has required me to learn a lot about a variety of transgender-related subjects. In that time, I've found that most mainstream coverage of trans topics is largely inadequate – presenting only shallow oversimplifications, produced by cis (non-trans) people, for cis people.

I think we can do better, and that’s the aim of Gender Analysis. Transness is more complex, and far more interesting, than anything you’ll hear from the usual news clips and documentaries. Gender Analysis takes a deeper look at the intricacies of living as a trans person, informed by contemporary research as well as my own experiences and those of others.

Beneath the tropes and stereotypes, beyond the faux controversies and debates, there’s a real world of trans life to explore. I’d like to give everyone, trans and cis alike, a window into that.

What will you get?

Your contribution will support the development of episodes covering topics such as the process of gender questioning, self-acceptance, history, social visibility as a trans person, the prevalence of transness, relationships, parenting, access to healthcare, legal aspects, common misconceptions, and much more. You’ll also receive various fun rewards at each level of support, listed below.

I expect to produce 2 – 3 episodes a month, each running 5 – 10 minutes. If you’d like to get a taste for my approach, feel free to check out my earlier work on issues like transphobiapublic facilities, and social perception of the effects of hormones.

In the course of covering this, I’ve had countless people tell me that I helped them understand and accept transness, or even come to terms with their own gender. I feel that’s an incredibly important thing to work towards, and your support will help me continue spreading this message.
