About

My name is Zoe Tuck. I was born in Texas, became a person in California, and now live in Massachusetts, where I am building the Threshold Academy, a bookstore and non-traditional educational / performance space. I co-curate the But Also house reading series. I'm the author of Soft Investigations (Daisy Mayhem Books 2019) and Terror Matrix (Timeless, Infinite Light 2014) and right now I'm working on The Book of Bella.

I have been using this space as a platform to create and share my epic poem, The Book of Bella (description below), but I am rethinking my patreon as a way to support ALL of my current creative projects: The But Also reading series which I co-curate with my partner, the reading groups and workshops I run (like The Poetics of Space reading group, and the upcoming reading groups for Songs and Stories of the Ghouls and Queer Phenomenology), my reading blog, my newsletter, and, yes, still The Book of Bella! This shift is reflected in the name change, since Threshold Academy is the bigger umbrella under which all these projects—and more—can be grouped!

The Book of Bella is an epic poem whose sections I am publishing serially. Before I transitioned and settled on the name Zoe, I struggled to appear under a different name, Bella. I began thinking about this self who almost, but never quite emerged. The tenderness I feel for her motivates me to write this epic as a space for Bella to be and to speak. My decision to publish this poem on Patreon is based on my desire to make writing more of a sustainable process while speaking directly to those people who care most about my work.
