About Z-STAR DELTA

Let the music play on!
A message from Zee x

Hi my most wonderful Music Lovers,

We’ve been living under this limitless sky together, all over the globe, connected by the music. The experience of a live gig, our electrical exchange, the band, the audience, the glorious freedom of expression, liberating us from everyday life, that feeling of being charged with inspired energy because we’re all in it together, pushing, pulling, growing and affecting each others lives. This is the Holy Grail, the raw truth, the rocket fuel for my creative explorations - this is what it's all about for me.

MAKING FRIENDS FOR LIFE
Over the years, we’ve grown closer - our connection stronger. For some of you, it started on the underground waiting for that Northern Line at Kings Cross, listening to those early acoustic sounds, dropping those hard earned coins in my top hat, following my forest trails and watching me grow, waiting in crazy queues, coming to the London residencies, hardcore music lovers melting together with the riotous sounds. I spent hundreds of hours flyposting, flyering, rearranging leather sofas, lighting candles, incense to make our music living room, a place for us to meet, relax, let loose and be inspired, a sound and crowd you looked forward to returning to, like the loved up festivals of Kimberley and Give. Folks meeting their partners at gigs, then bringing their kids, yes its been that long:)

THE JOURNEY TOGETHER
Some of you discovered me through diverse collaborations and festivals (Nigel Kennedy, Vagina Monologues, Max Sedgley, Gabin, Glastonbury). Or via my electrosoul alter ego Lady Z with SLOWTRAINSOUL, a project which has also made it possible for me to tour the globe and connect with new audiences.

To be on tour thousands of miles from home and reconnect with fans who were in our music scene 10 years earlier and had migrated, just feels awesome. Folks getting on planes, trains, cars, bikes, buses, leaving their cosy homes on freezing or rainy nights to come to the gigs to have a good time and be with the Z-STAR family, words alone couldn’t voice my appreciation, so much love, I feel so honoured and blessed that you have all stuck with me and what a story we’re creating together.

MUSIC AS A WAY OF LIFE
I have a collective of gifted musicians who add their flava to the music, we write, record and go on tour together, it's a way of life. Sometimes we do big Festivals to thousands and other times we play small clubs in new places to a handful of people who never heard us before. Sometimes I get paid, sometimes the budget does a Houdini, but it's all an investment. The action word in my heart is always GIVE. My feeling is that if someone has left their home to come see a live gig, then they should leave the concert feeling completely immersed in the music and ultimately, thoroughly entertained. This is my music ethic, the inner force, the bar being raised with every endeavour.

INTRODUCING Z-STAR DELTA
Z-STAR DELTA is the stripped back blues folk flipside of my rock project Z-STAR
. It came together organically whilst on tour in Australia last year with lead guitarist Sebastien Heintz. Seb is a guitar prodigy, multi instrumentalist, who also writes and records his own music. We were introduced at a late night jam session of French rocker Mathieu Chedid (-M-) in London and the rest is history:) The last Australian tour was such an epic adventure; we played 27 shows, did music workshops for kids, made a video in the bushland with our aboriginal friend Sean, recorded an hour long radio special and made lots of new fans and friends. The tour was such a success that we’ve been asked to return (next month). This time as Z-STAR DELTA.

BEING INDEPENDENT
One can easily work an 80 hour week micro managing the demi-empire. Its challenging and fun all rolled into one. The only thing that gets in the way of production is a lack of consistent finance and unfortunately when one ticks the self employed box, this is the achilles heel.

I’m currently in the last stages of production for a record that was funded by a very successful PledgeMusic campaign thanks to my music lovers, friends and family, this process of crowd funding has been insightful and in many ways a steep learning curve.

OUR FUTURE TOGETHER WITH PATREON
Enter the great experiment Patreon - a true revolution for creators and fans alike. The difference between Patreon and the other sites (like PledgeMusic, KickStarter, IndieGoGo etc) is that here there is no end date, no deadline, no one project - but an ongoing fluid flow of creativity.

Patrons get the feel good satisfaction of knowing that they have played a key role in lubricating the creative wheels of their favourite artist/s.

We're in it together. I don’t need to get paid to be inspired to write songs, that's my life. The cost is in the living expenses - 10,000 hours of practise to be great, the strings, the guitar, the practice rooms, hired musicians, the recording studio, software and plugins, the microphones, the video editing, the office stuff, manufacturing, pluggers, tour vans blah blah blah. To be a self sufficient independent musician is a true labor of love, it's all or nothing.

Veteran crowd funder Amanda Palmer nails it on the head by stating "It isn't making world news, because it is what it is: a quiet, underground network of artists connecting directly with their fans, bypassing the entire commercial system. This is AWESOME! The bright side of the net: it is how the internet can really save artists and the art they make. it also means YOU need to step up and support the artists you love, the political cartoonists you want to see bravely satirising the system, the painters you want to see reflecting their realities, the musicians you want filling your hearts and your speakers, the journalists you want to see writing about the state of the world."

HOW IT WORKS
Patreon is setup like a subscription, you decide on the tier/level of content you’d like to receive and the amount you’d like to give per "Great Thing" posted from as little as $1. See bottom right for all your juicy patron rewards.

Q. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAYING PER MONTH OR PER GREAT THING?

By pledging Per Great Thing you only pay for what we post so if we don’t post anything you won’t get charged at all. It gives us more flexibility to create and deliver our Great Things without the added pressure of deadlines or time constraints.

This is the great experiment and challenge for us as our aim is to keep the flow of great things coming…quality as opposed to quantity. With just $1 Per Great Thing you can see and hear all our posts. With $3 you can download the Mp3s (320bit) and media files etc. Don’t worry we won’t be posting 5 Great Things per day 7 days a week. With Patreon you can put a cap on the tap, limiting your contribution. just incase we are having a prolific month and post 10 new songs! Let's say you choose the $3 subscription for Mp3 downloads and cap it at 4 Great Things per month then only $12 will be credited to our cause.
