Hey there!  I'm Michael Lutz.

WHAT DO YOU MAKE.
I'm a writer, game designer, and cultural critic who also makes a high number of immensely bad tweets.

You may have heard of some stuff I've done, particularly the horror Twine games "My Father's Long, Long Legs" and The Uncle Who Works for Nintendo.  You may have also seen some of my criticism or short fiction on my blog, Correlated Contents.  My tweets are here but they're real bad.

WHAT'S THE WORST THING YOU EVER MADE APART FROM THE TWEETS.
I also created the "creepypasta" known as "smile.dog" which is somehow kind of well known and it is the bane of my existence.  Anyway if you didn't know about the other stuff you might know about that.

I HAVE HEARD OF NOTHING YOU HAVE DONE.
Well, I made this Patreon page, so consider that my introduction.

OKAY SO WHY DO YOU HAVE THE PATREON.
I'm a graduate student.  I specialize in early modern English drama, which is like, Shakespeare and stuff, and I'm in the middle of writing my dissertation.  I also teach.  This means that I am doing a lot of work, and, well, I'm also not getting paid much.  My creative work has hence fallen behind on my list of priorities, except for very infrequent blog posts.

And here's the thing: I don't like that.

I want to be able to work on my side-projects and not feel guilty about it.  It's something I enjoy but it's not "my job," which I also like, but, damn, sometimes I wanna do something else for a day! You know?!  I also want to have a little bit of help when it comes to making rent.

So here's where you come in: if you like my stuff, then you can give me money to produce regular content on a schedule, rather than, just, like, whenever I have the time or inclination.  This will be primarily traditional writing -- fiction or criticism -- though if a fiction project seems suited to the medium it may become a fairly simple Twine game or some other unusual format.  If pledges are high enough there's a novel and a pretty big new Twine game off in the future, too.

INTRIGUING. TELL ME MORE ABOUT OUR POTENTIAL DEALS.
I have three monthly tiers of support.  For $1, you get my gratitude and the satisfaction of having helped me out.  It really means a lot!

For $3 you will you be able to vote on the content and direction of my writing.  This includes, at earlier stages, whether I'm writing fiction or criticism, and at later stages, the themes or subjects of my writing generally.

For $5 you will be able to recommend some media or art object to me as the potential subject of a future piece of criticism.  It'll go into a pool of potential topics that will show up on my monthly polls.  This could be anything -- a videogame, a film, a book, or a poem, a weird commercial you found on YouTube -- so long as
  1. it's not your videogame, film, book, or poem that you want to promote through me
  2. it's not primarily intended as pornography or erotica (let's keep it hard R-rated and below)
  3. it's not racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic agitprop or otherwise uselessly vile
Otherwise, I reserve the right to just pass on a topic or object that seems kinda hinky to me or is difficult to obtain or speak well about.

Anyway there you go! If you're inclined, give what you can.  It's incredibly helpful no matter what, and thank you for your interest and checking out my page!

You will get to participate in all polls regarding the direction of my work. At earlier goals, you'll decide whether I'm writing fiction or criticism, and at later goals, you'll help decide what particular themes, settings, or objects that piece of criticism or fiction will cover.

For this amount per month, you become a Potential Thinkfluencer, which I assume is a real thing!  In case it's not, how it works is you'll be able to recommend one media object thing per month you want me to write about for a potential piece of criticism: this can be a videogame, a movie, a book, a poem, whatever (as long as it is not: something you made and are trying to promote and/or pornographic and/or hateful).  These objects will be added to the pool I draw from to make my monthly polls.
Goals
$131 of $150 per creation
In college I wrote a horror novel, Brutal, about a metalhead and his friends struggling with growing up and also fighting an recently reawakened ancient evil fairy that wants to kill everyone at prom, which they weren't planning on going to but now kind of have to, to stop the whole murder spree thing. At this stage, in addition to the previous tiers for writing, I will begin to edit, revise, and release this novel, one chapter at a time. UPDATE 07/17: Whoa! I'm  still producing the serial Twine game, but Brutal will move forward in my work queue.
