Welcome to 99% Geek.

I'm afraid this is a pale reflection of what this site used to be. For a decade I put everything into this site trying to make it a place people would want to come back to. but I failed.

It all started with my goal in life to write for television. I've been to Sheridan College for Media Arts, I've been to university for English, but neither really taught me what I wanted to know, which is how to write and break into the industry.

Learning to write came with time, and doing. Everything I write feels a little better than everything I wrote before. I'm not done improving, perhaps I never will be.

But breaking in? That never came at all.

Finding it impossible to break into television or film, I tried other mediums. I wrote like 8 comic book scripts for different artists, all of whom gave up while working on my projects, either passing it up for better paying work, or just losing interest.

So I pivoted to novels.

I tried writing novels like seasons of TV shows, each chapter an episode that I would release on this site monthly. I didn't miss a deadline for nearly a decade straight. I thought that would be worth something, that as long as I kept putting in the work people would start showing up and coming back.

But after 8 novels and thousands of pages of content, still my audience rose and fell and never really grew at all for the entire run. I feel like I've learned two things from the endeavour.

1) I'm not as good at novel writing as I am scriptwriting. Not even close. It was a struggle for the entire time.

2) People just aren't that interested in reading anymore. I thought they just weren't interested in reading my scripts, and that's why I started writing novels... but they don't really wanna read novels either. People just dont want to read anymore.

So I'm giving up on my novels. Now if you've been silently following along this whole time, and you love my novels... now would be the time to say something. Really anytime over the past decade would have been great, but I know I left 3 of my novels unfinished... and if you want to see them finished MAKE A FUSS. Make noise. Let me know, and I will oblige you.

The Future of 99% Geek: Blog, World of Warcraft, and the Discord

So here's where we stand.

For the past 170 weeks I've been doing a weekly blog where I rank all the TV I watch in a week, as well as listing all the stuff worth checking out next week in pop culture. I did that for literally 170 weeks hoping it would help build an audience for my writing, and be a tool people would find utility in.

Like my writing, my blog never took off, though I would post a snapshot of the lists on social and it seemed people were willing to look at the list... just not click through to see my reviews and write ups and list of trailers for new stuff... so I've cancelled the written and now JUST release on Twitter and Instagram my Geekly Weekly. I also have a discord. I made it back in the day for my World of Warcraft guild that never took off in Classic, and then I used it to organize Civilization games. Well now, with the release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, I tried again to make a guild and this time my guild is thriving. Over 270 members on Alliance on Maladath (And now we even have a Horde sister guild). So find us and join us!

The goal of the guild is to create a friendly safe community away from all the right wing toxic hate that is overwhelming on WOW and other online communities. My intention is to level my character on both alliance and horde, doing every quest in the game on both sides while helping to nurture the community I've built. Id love all the help I can get!

The Future of 99% Geek: My Writing

As For my writing, which is still my goal in life, I want to pivot back to focusing on my scripts. Once I've accomplished some of my goals in World of Warcraft, and I'd love for all of you to join me in that journey, assuming a bunch of people don't speak up to get me to finish my novels, I think I'd like to write a screenplay stand alone sequel to my Isabol Tseung Book. I have an idea that would play off of her emotional state at the end of that book, without the book being necessary reading. So she'd be dealing with the death of one of her cameramen, the circumstances of which wont matter to the movie as much as how it affects her.

Anyway, that's an idea. After that, I could keep working on a pilot for each of my books... and then maybe continue with more episodes? If there are people out there who have read my books and enjoyed them, would you enjoy seeing them retold and then continued as scripts? I find it so much easier to write scripts, and I think I'm so much better at it.

So are there people out there who would love to see my novels retold as scripts?
Should I just keep writing new pilots and screenplays I can submit to contests instead?
Should I go back to writing my novels? Maybe they weren't as bad as I think they were?
