About HAIG PAPAZIAN

Welcome to the SPACE-TIME TUNING MACHINE. Some of you know me from Mashrou Leila, or have come across some of my writings: [The Cost of Being Queer and Arab (NYT) and Beyrouth et Beyrouth [France Culture].

For those who don't know me by name, I’m Haig Papazian (@haigpapa), a Lebanese-Armenian multidisciplinary artist, composer, storyteller, and architect. Born in Beirut, I'm currently based out of New York with my cat Beau.  Over the past few years, I’ve worked on many other projects across multiple disciplines. You can read about them here.

The life I’ve known and worked so hard to build over the years has disappeared and in many ways is gone forever, however, I continue to turn to music, writing, and new artistic experimentation. The arts have helped me overcome injustices endured by Mashrou' Leila in recent years including the weight of Lebanon's economic collapse, and the painful circumstances of the Beirut Blast. But rather than dwell on what is lost, I choose to focus on the possibilities to create again. Currently, I am constrained by financial hardship exacerbated by the pandemic and directly by the crises in Lebanon.

If you enjoy my music, writing, stories, ideas, video works, or even my cat’s animated interstellar space adventures (=^・ω・^=) please consider a pledge of $3 per month, which will unlock all content on this page. If you are able to give more support, that would mean the world to me and I look forward to connecting with you.

Your pledge will unlock access to areas of my artistic process.  You can expect a behind-the-scenes look at how new projects develop, some late night ideas that may inspire new work, personal city bike adventures with me, or recommendations for books, films, and shows that I'm into, with the hopes of fostering a place for community and connection with you.

In Armenian, we have a common saying that roughly translates to: “Let me carry the burden of our pain.” Coming from a diasporic community that has endured so many atrocities over the past century, I've learned that survival comes through sharing a responsibility towards one another and a sense of community where everyone is ready to help alleviate each other's pain no matter what…

I’m thankful to everyone that has already been so supportive, and ultimately kept my spirit up and creatively running these past months. I hope you've found my work inspiring, and in exchange, I'd be most grateful for your pledge as a patron, now and in the future.
