About Italics Magazine

Italy, Unlocked

Italics began when two friends from Rome realized that there was no English magazine that really explored life in their home country. Tired of superficial news and inaccurate reporting, they began in 2018 with a small team of volunteer writers all over Italy who were also passionate about arts, culture, politics, and history. Today, Italics has over 25,000 unique monthly visitors from all over the world.

Our Mission is to Build a Bridge Between Italy and the English Speaking World.

We've built Italics without a paywall because we believe that good, in-depth reporting should be accessible to everyone.

Since 2018 our team of writers has volunteered their time and talent to building Italics. In order for the project to be truly sustainable, we need to fairly compensate them for their writing, recruit new writers to our roster, and develop multimedia content on subjects that make Italy so fascinating.

In order for Italics to continue growing independently, we want to build a community of people who care about Italy and want to support the creation of quality content. The larger this community grows the more we can accomplish together. This is your project as much as it is ours, and we want to keep it that way.

By becoming a Patron, you'll help us deliver high-quality reporting on an ever-expanding range of topics from emerging and experienced voices all over Italy.

Become an Italics Patron

If you think about it, patronage is really what made Italy what it is today. The Renaissance would not have happened without it, and some of our greatest works of arts wouldn't exist without the support and generosity of families, dynasties, and regular old folks from all over the country. Patrons built legacies that still stand in today's Italy, and we think that's not a bad model to follow.

Benefits of Patronage

As we reach our goals, you'll reach them with us. We'll continue adding to our offerings and expanding our catalogue with your patronage. You know, the way it used to be.

Patronage, not Privilege

Some things have changed since the good old days of the Medici. These days, we don’t want the amount you give to determine what access you receive. Our goal is not to commodify content but to create a sustainable source of funding for independent think pieces from talented people. We believe that whatever you’re able to give is your way of believing in Italics, and that’s always priceless.

Join the Italics Community! Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it wasn’t built alone.
