About Jen Sorensen

Welcome to my Patreon, featuring my weekly cartoon and personal commentary about politics, life, and cartooning.

I started a subscription service via Mailchimp nearly three years ago to compensate for the ongoing decline of print newspapers. Since then, I have indeed lost several newspaper clients, but can happily report that subscribers have softened the blow. Slow but steady growth in subscription numbers more or less kept pace with the gradual disappearance of paying publications.

As I write this during the pandemic, however, the already-struggling altweeklies who provide a substantial portion of my income are dropping like flies. Mainstream newspapers have only grown more cautious over the years. Meanwhile, in 2020 I heard from more readers than ever how much political cartoons are appreciated.

I’m determined to keep the cartoon going one way or another, but it’s becoming obvious that subscriptions will need to play a larger role more quickly than I’d hoped. To that end, I hope you’ll consider joining the club. Subscribers receive the cartoon via email each week along with extended commentary, personal news, classic cartoons, and occasional process sketches. You’ll also stay in the loop about events, interviews, and any side projects.

I’ve truly enjoyed engaging with subscribers over the past few years, and am continually amazed by the fascinating people who’ve signed up. Maybe there is hope for the world — or at least political cartooning!

Some background about me:

In 2017, I was a Pulitzer Finalist in Editorial Cartooning. I’ve also been honored to receive the Herblock Prize, an award endowed by the legendary Washington Post cartoonist Herb Block; a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award; a National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award for Editorial Cartoons; an Aronson “Cartooning With a Conscience” Journalism Award from Hunter College in NYC, and an Inkpot Award for career achievement in comic arts from the San Diego Comic-Con International.
