About No Country Podcast

Hi everybody! My name is J. David Osborne, a writer living in Norman, Oklahoma, and I host the NO COUNTRY podcast with one of my personal favorite writers, Kris Saknussemm. Kris is one of the most interesting people I know, a guy with great depth and breadth of knowledge, and life experience to boot. He's also a multimedia artist and world traveler, having lived in Oakland, Australia, and among a tribe in Papua New Guinea.

Kris and I feel as though we are people with "No Country," meaning that we're a bit too weird for any particular lockstep ideology. In this show, we aim to create our own sense of place and community via an exploration of myth, language, and culture in the interest of developing a new kind of anthropology, implementing elements of Fortean high weirdness, skepticism, and story. In the process, we attempt to understand the doomed energy of the current moment, taking a proactive approach in diagnosis and prescription.

On the Patreon episodes, we have expanded on our theory of the Crystal Radio, Pirate Radio, and Ghost Radio. How do we develop an interest in DIY thinking and action? How do we develop community? And what exactly are we tuning into when we experience the paranormal? The Patreon episodes act as continuations of the themes of the free-to-air episodes, while exploring exclusive topics.

What I think is fun about the show is how it operates as an idea generator. Kris and I have some wild conversations that often veer into unplanned territory. This gives the listeners an opportunity to practice shifting between reality tunnels, which I think will be one of the key survival strategies of the 21st century. In addition to that, the practical tips at the end of the Patreon episodes have helped me improve my memory, find direction within my life, and even combat my OCD and anxiety.

Your support will keep the show running for as long as Kris and I have things to talk about. So far we have a Google Doc with about 120 topics of interest. It could go on for quite some time!
