WHO WAS JOSEPH DUVEEN?
For those unaware of the Duveen name. Joseph Duveen was known as the “Greatest Art Dealer in the World!” around the start of the 20th century. Along with his father Joel before him, he cultivated relationships with all the top philanthropists of that time, Mellon, Carnegie, Rockefeller and many more, including our own royalty. Advising them on the acquisition of their art collections, bought via his bases in London, Paris, Rome and New York. He is also responsible for The Duveen Gallery at the British Museum.

He was born in Hull on the 14th October 1869, not a half a mile from PAD Studios.

About Paul A Dennis

HELP ME ENCOURAGE MORE DRAWERS OF PEOPLE, FROM LIFE.

Practising drawing from life, as a simple, observation based physical activity can bring us closer to calming the mind, relaxing the bodies tensions and stimulating our sense of awe at life’s creative possibilities.

My name is Paul A Dennis, join me to explore how you can effect society in simple, practical and helpful ways by taking some time to.. STOP, LOOK, DRAW, and SHARE.

Inspiring people of all ages to take some time away from the computer screen or mobile phone and practice drawing portraits. And yes…there’s more to it than just the drawing!

Your support will allow me to develop the following;

PAD PORTRAITS DRAWING PAD GIVEAWAY.

In an increasingly “always on” world, I’m looking forward to producing and providing content on the simple act of connecting with and drawing people from life, with all its physical and mental benefits to wellbeing, using a simple pencil and some paper.

With your Patreon support we can give away the above PAD PORTRAITS DRAWING PAD to encourage more people to practice drawing portraits from life. Inside which are suggestions on asking questions, during the process, about their sitters. With the option to take a picture of the portrait drawing, plus any audio or film recording of the sitting and share it on social media using #PADportraits. Essentially becoming a momentary witness to that persons own life story so far, with a unique record of the interaction.

Hence my strapline.. “Witness the Art of being, one Portrait at a time.”

My projects “PAD PORTRAITS” and specifically “ON THE FACE OF IT”  involve my own drawing and talking with interesting people from the world of Business, Politics, Entertainment and the Arts.

In these recorded sittings we’ll learn more about them and their own challenges. What they’ve become and overcome. How they deal with stress, success or failure.

You’ll see my start to finish sketches, some bad, some better, and hopefully the progress I will be making over the coming years. After all, it’s not about creating a work of art, but a unique record of the “moment.”

I’m not a full-time professional artist. I’m a graphic designer, a creative producer, an online creator and an enthusiastic drawer of people. It offers me a way to slow down, zone out and connect to something universal, simply by drawing from life.

THE PAD PATRON AND YOUTUBE CHANNEL.

Your patronage will also support the production of free video content related to my projects plus other subjects around drawing humans.

Including interviews with artists, creators, sitters. Things to help build skills and knowledge, with anything that I think you would find interesting, to inspire people to draw and be well.

You can see more here: PADnPencil website.

EXPERIENCING NOW.. (A bit of history).

A RETURN TO DRAWING WITH A PURPOSE. In 2015 after 40 years as a designer and more recently as a creative producer I came back to drawing somewhat, by running a weekly figure drawing session at my Studio in Hull, England. In which I felt blessed to spend time in front of another human, giving me the chance to capture their physical form with a pencil once again. Offering a few hours respite, in the company of my fellow drawers, from the constant pressures of daily life. Great practice but I had no more expectations from it other than that.

Until, in 2015 I revisited the thinking of Eckhart Tolle (the German spiritual teacher) who points people towards developing a sense of awareness of the ‘moment’, of being present. Learning how to accept or enjoy the “POWER OF NOW”. His writings struck a deep chord in me, especially his latest “THE NEW EARTH.”

I believe like him, that people are searching for a sense of inner peace in an ever more complicated, ‘always on’ world. Especially those in the creative industries themselves. This confirmed in me a decision to commit more time to fully exploring my own passion once again for drawing the human form and learning myself to appreciate NOW.

So I have challenged myself to start afresh, with a little more life experience added..

To begin my own journey of getting better at both seeing and drawing.

To look at ways of enjoying and promoting the drawing process and its potential benefits to improved awareness, in businesses, to sections of the public and to other budding drawers.

THANK YOU!

TO RECAP: YOUR PATRONAGE WILL HELP ME ACHIEVE THE FOLLOWING:

- Maintain PAD STUDIOS as a base for drawing projects and content creation.

- Promote the PAD PORTRAITS projects, including giving away PAD PORTRAIT DRAWING PADS.

- Producing video content for PAD Patrons the PAD YouTube channel.

- Promote the need for less judgement and the aim of becoming more present in the things we say and react to online - “Be still the chattering mind!”

Paul.
