Not a traditional game mind you, but one that's more along the lines of a visual novel. The main purpose of the game is to offer the player an inside look at the infamous Skyline Mall where some of our stories take place and where a lot of the characters work! The game will be more linear than most VN games with about 2 possible endings depending on a choice that can be made at the end game.
While the game is going to lack multiple narrative branches like in most traditional visual novels, the main focus is going to be visiting the various shops within the mall and interacting with the people who work there. Misadventures may ensue as a result.
I had a hard time deciding on whether to have the player take control of a character or make one themselves since I've always been a fond of the latter when I play games. However I'm not very good at coding and haven't really attempted to make any kind of game before. If you don't count the custom levels I made in Star Trek Online when that was a feature that is.
In the end, I made a compromise with myself. I want the player to be as immersed as possible in this world so I opted to let the player name their character but that's about as customizable as it gets. Perhaps if there's demand for another installment and if I can get proper assistance with coding, we can have a neat create-a-character feature! But that's for the future.
The software I'm using to put this all together is called Cloud Novel, which is a web based tool that is (in all intents and purposes) super easy to use. It also allows me to work on it at work which helps out a huge amount, seeing as how I have a full time job and not a lot of free time these days. The web based service also hosts the games made on it so it will also be easily accessible there!
And now for the price for the game. The good news? The price is in the single digits. The even better news? It's $0! Yep that's right, the game will be absolutely free! Since this is a first attempt at a game, I didn't think it'd be kosher to charge for it, plus I want everyone who's interested to be able to access it and discover the wonderful world of Roll To Save!
I have just finished the optional tour that the player is able to go on in case they want tour guide Wendy (pictured above) to give them an overview of all the places that they can visit along with fun facts that you can only learn from her! The first shop I'll be tackling is 'The Gremlin Stash'. A comic book/hobby store run by an angry and smol owner! There's lots to find out there!
That's it for now, I hope you're excited about this cuz I certainly am! I'll post periodic updates on the game too, just bear in mind it may take a while since I'm the only one working on it. But don't fret for it will be released if it's the last thing I do! Until next time my friends!
