About Rachel Marie

Being a full-time musician is a leap of faith that I take daily.
That faith has been easy to find with my Patreon community by my side.

When I first conceptualized this Patreon page as my Foam Cube Fort, the idea of quitting my day job was scary. The visual was thatfull-time music was an empty swimming pool (in-ground, concrete, easy to break your bones on), and every dollar I made doing music was a foam cube I could toss in to break my fall. I'd gathered enough foam cubes myself that my first leap didn't hurt. But I felt a need to convince my community to rally around me, to keep tossing foam cubes into the pool beneath me, or I might wreck myself.

What I've realized over the past few years on this platform is that I didn't have to do a whole lot of convincing. My community was ready. Excited. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. And it made me realize that I could show up that way too.

I don't create out of a fear that my life as an artist will fall out from under me. I create because art is magical, connective, healing, game changing, powerful. And I invite you in because I believe in what we're doing here.

So what is it that we're doing here, exactly? When I experience music that makes me feel seen and validated, it makes me want to turn around and do the same. That's why I write, record, and release music. To encourage empathy. So people know they're not alone.

The logistics:

  • I record one demo (usually a freshly written song) and one cover video per month.
  • Through that process, I'm learning more about recording and editing audio and video, which will help me reach wider audiences with more effective content.
  • Through that I'm also committing to regularly flexing my songwriting muscles.
  • The growing collection of songs I'm writing will give rise to my next album project, which I'll begin recording this Fall – you'll have access to those tracks before they're released publicly.
  • I write a monthly essay reflecting on what's going on in this musician life of mine. It keeps me grounded, reminds me why I'm doing all this, and helps me create art that is more authentic and aligned with my goals.
I hope to see you out there soon, in-person or online. Until then, I'll be cooking up some art in my fort.
